Frequently asked questions
What does Disblur do?
We bring together art, practical philosophy and academic research through content, conversations and courses. We make films, documentaries and podcasts, host events, and are developing courses. These help people explore a subject and understand what it means for people and their lives.
What is “parallel education”?
It means learning alongside school, college, work and everyday life. Our content, conversations and developing courses bring together art, practical philosophy and academic research to help people keep learning and connect ideas with their lives.
What do you mean by “depth”?
For us, depth means understanding any subject with people at the centre. We look at how people experience it, what it means in their lives, and how it shapes the way they think, feel and live. Art, practical philosophy and academic research help us explore these connections.
Why bring art, practical philosophy and academic research together?
Art helps us notice, feel and imagine. Practical philosophy helps us question our assumptions and think about how we live. Academic research helps us examine a subject using evidence. Together, they help us understand both the subject and its meaning in people's lives.
What happens at your events?
We call our events Conversations. They can include screenings, discussions, workshops and retreats built around our content, hosted with institutions and communities. We explore art, practical philosophy and academic research together by asking questions, sharing experiences and discussing ideas.
What are your courses about?
We are developing courses around the subjects explored in our content. They will bring together art, practical philosophy and academic research through creative activities, questions, reflection and discussion, helping people connect what they learn with everyday life.
Do I need to be an expert to take part?
No. You don't need a background in art, philosophy or research. Curiosity is a good place to start. You can watch, listen, ask questions or share your own experience. We value both expert knowledge and what people have learned through life.
Can I be part of a film or interview?
If you have knowledge, research or a lived experience you would like to share, email impact@disblur.org with a short introduction. Tell us what you would like to talk about so we can explore whether it fits a project.
How can I help or work with Disblur?
You can contribute art, research, ideas or lived experience, volunteer your time or skills, offer practical help, or discuss funding our work. Institutions and communities can also get in touch about hosting an event. Email impact@disblur.org and tell us how you'd like to help.
